Antique & Vintage Postcards

Bustling pedestrian life crowds the foreground of this atmospheric undivided-back view of Town House Square in Salem, Massachusetts — a city whose name conjures witch trials but whose commercial heart was very much alive in the Edwardian era. A church spire rises dramatically above the roofline at mid-frame while a Life Insurance Company building anchors the left corner, and the storefront of W.B. Neal & Co. is visible at right. The dark, moody tonal printing gives the scene an almost cinematic quality. The card shows significant surface wear including a chip/loss to the emulsion at center foreground. A handwritten note in pencil reads "Semons" on the image side, possibly a sender's surname or a note to self.
