Postcard 1953 Cleveleys Promenade Gardens RPPC Lancashire Blackpool Area

Cleveleys, Lancashire, England1953Pre-linenGood

On a blazing summer's day — hot enough that "Polly" felt compelled to write "weather as been very hot" — the seafront promenade at Cleveleys, Lancashire, teems with Edwardian and interwar holidaymakers: women in cloche hats, men in dark suits and bowlers, a pram being pushed along the broad concrete walk, couples strolling arm-in-arm beside the ornamental rock gardens, while behind them the beach is packed as far as the eye can see toward the distant dunes; published in the "Progress Series," this sepia real-photo-style card was posted from Blackpool, Lancashire in 1953 by Polly to Joan, addressed to a Mrs. at 4 Isaac Street, off Taylor Street, Salford, carrying a 2d George VI stamp that dates the mailing to the final months of GVIR postal rates.
