Postcard RPPC Boy First Communion Portrait Strand Studio Kingston NY c.1910s

Kingston, New York, USA1910RPPCExcellent

Dressed to impress in a double-breasted dark suit, wide white Eton collar, and a silk sash draped diagonally across his chest, a solemn young boy poses beside a prop pedestal draped with roses in this beautifully composed real-photo postcard from the Strand Studio of Kingston, New York — one of the Hudson Valley's respected early portrait photographers. The white sash and boutonnière corsage strongly suggest a First Communion or Confirmation occasion, a Catholic milestone that families of the era commemorated with formal studio portraits. The boy's direct, composed gaze and the soft painted backdrop give the image an almost painterly quality. The card was produced on standard RPPC stock, publisher-stamped on the reverse by "Strand Studio, 9 B. Strand, Kingston, N.Y." — a firm active in the early twentieth century. Unused, the back carries no address or message, suggesting this was likely retained as a keepsake or distributed among family members rather than mailed.
