Antique & Vintage Postcards

Standing alone against a broad Mojave or Colorado Desert floor carpeted with wildflowers, a gnarled "Smoke" Tree — Psorothamnus spinosus, native to desert washes of the American Southwest — fills the frame of this evocative real-photograph postcard from the 1920s or early 1930s. The feathery, almost leafless branches give the tree its common name, and the handwritten caption "Smoke Tree." in white ink on the image itself suggests a locally produced souvenir card, likely sold in the Palm Springs, Indio, or Twentynine Palms area of Southern California where this species is iconic. The reverse is a standard RPPC stock back with embossed "POST CARD / CORRESPONDENCE / ADDRESS / PLACE STAMP HERE" layout, unused and blank, with a penciled dealer price "3-" visible in the stamp box corner.
