Antique & Vintage Postcards

Soaring against a dramatic cloudscape, the Monumento a la Revolución dominates this real-photo postcard from Mexico City — its massive Art Deco triumphal arch crowned by a copper dome, flanked by seated allegorical figures, with the emerging mid-century skyline of the Distrito Federal stretching behind it. The monument, completed in 1938 after a decades-long transformation from an abandoned Porfirian legislative palace, became an instant icon of post-revolutionary Mexican identity. Penciled in careful cursive below the image: "250 — Monumento a la Revolucion — Mex. D.F." The RPPC format — printed on photographic paper stock — gives the image a rich tonal depth that lithographed cards of the era could not match, and the visible automobiles and urban density help date the shot to the early-to-mid 1940s.
