Confronting the viewer head-on with wide, placid eyes and sweeping horns, this powerfully built ox rendered in rich sepia ink channels the spirit of Han Huang's celebrated Tang-dynasty masterwork Five Oxen (五牛图) — one of the most revered paintings in Chinese art history, now housed in the Palace Museum, Beijing. The card reproduces the third ox from that scroll, surrounded by a constellation of vermilion collector seals and a five-column classical poem in the upper left inscribed by the Qianlong Emperor himself, lauding the ox's patient, industrious nature. Two large seal-script characters at upper right read 吉祥 ("Auspicious"). The reverse is printed with the greeting 恭贺新禧 (Happy New Year) in bold red, identifies the image as 《五牛图》(三)·唐·韩滉 ("Five Oxen, No. 3, Tang Dynasty, Han Huang"), and carries a pre-printed 4-fen red stamp depicting a running ox — almost certainly issued for the 1985 Year of the Ox.
