Postcard Otesaga Hotel Cooperstown NY Treadway Inns Albertype c.1930s-40s Linen

Cooperstown, New York, USA1940Pre-linenExcellent

The grand Georgian Revival façade of the Otesaga Hotel rises through mature shade trees in this crisp Albertype view card — a handsome black-and-white image of one of upstate New York's most celebrated resort hotels, set on the shore of Otsego Lake in Cooperstown, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame. The Otesaga, built in 1909 and managed for decades by Treadway Inns, is captured here at its stately best: a circular drive sweeps past manicured grounds to a columned portico topped by a copper-domed cupola flying the American flag, with the hotel's Flemish-gabled rear wing rising behind. The Albertype Company of Brooklyn — famous for their fine-grain half-tone printing — produced this card for Treadway Inns, whose musket-bearing Colonial soldier logo appears on the reverse. Unused and clean, this is a strong example of classic American resort hotel ephemera from the golden age of Cooperstown tourism.
