Siegburg Former Abbey Brölthaler-Eisenbahn Official No.1 Postcard 1900

Siegburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany1900Pre-linenGood
Official photographic postcard No. 1 of the Brölthaler-Eisenbahn (Bröl Valley Railway), a narrow-gauge steam railway running through the Bröl valley in the Bergisches Land region of Germany. The image shows a panoramic view of Siegburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, dominated by the Benedictine Michaelsberg Abbey (Abtei Michaelsberg) crowning its distinctive conical hill above the town. The caption reads 'Siegburg (frühere Abtei).' — 'Siegburg (former abbey)' — referring to the abbey's suppression under Napoleonic secularisation in 1803, after which it served as a prison and asylum before being returned to the Benedictines in 1914. The town spreads across the wooded hillside below, with factory chimneys, a church spire at right, and half-timbered structures visible. Photographer credit on the front left margin: 'Rud. Stolle, Bad Harzburg (Villa Ilse)'. Back printed entirely in German blackletter (Fraktur): 'BRÖLTHALER-EISENBAHN. / Officielle Ansichtskarte No. 1.' with 'Postkarte' in Fraktur script. Print code lower left: 'I. 1000. VIII. 00. K.' — indicating a print run of 1,000 copies dated August 1900. Undivided back format. Unused and unposted. Companion to PC-00207 (Schloss Allner) from the same official series.
