Antique & Vintage Postcards

Two figures pause on the ancient rampart walkway of Luxembourg City — one leans against the iron railing peering into the valley below, the other bends over a camera or sketch pad, capturing the same dramatic clifftop vista that still draws visitors today. This evocative pre-linen real-photo style card, published by P. C. Schoren of Luxembourg-Gare, shows the "Partie du Rempart" — a section of the legendary Bock fortifications whose sandstone escarpments earned Luxembourg City its UNESCO World Heritage designation. The tree-lined promenade stretches toward the spire of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, while the red-roofed Ville Haute spills across the plateau in the background. Schoren operated from 10, rue Bourbon near the railway station and issued a well-regarded series of Luxembourg topographic cards in the 1900s–1920s; this undivided-back-era design with its clean sans-serif caption dates the card to approximately 1905–1915.
