Postcard 1900s P. de Hooch Interior Dutch House National Gallery Official Series

London, England1910Pre-linenGood

A warm domestic drama unfolds across a black-and-white halftone in this early National Gallery official postcard — Pieter de Hooch's celebrated painting Interior of a Dutch House (catalogue no. 834) reproduced with crisp photomechanical fidelity: two gentlemen toast with wine glasses at a linen-draped table while a maidservant attends and a child lingers near the fireplace, all anchored on that mesmerizing chequered marble floor that de Hooch made iconic. Published in London by The Medici Society Ltd. for the Trustees of the National Gallery as Official Series No. 147, this unused card in the divided-back format (post-1902) was distributed internationally — the back legends appear in English, French, and Italian. A fine example of the early museum postcard tradition that brought great art into everyday correspondence.
