Postcard 1907 High School Chardon Ohio Antique Real Photo Aunt Florence

Chardon, Ohio, USA1907Pre-linenPoor-Fair

A stately two-story Italianate brick schoolhouse presides over bare winter trees in this early real-photo postcard of the Chardon, Ohio High School — its Second Empire cupola crowned with a bell-tower lantern, its arched entrance framed in carved stone, the whole scene carrying the quiet dignity of a small-town institution that meant everything to the community it served. Written in period ink across the bottom border is the inscription "aunt Florence," suggesting this card was tucked away as a keepsake, perhaps sent by a student to a family member proud of the local school. Chardon, the seat of Geauga County in northeast Ohio, relied on this building as its educational heart in the early 1900s before later school construction replaced it. The card's severely worn corners and splitting upper-left edge speak to decades of handling and affectionate keeping.
