Postcard 1900s Lourdes La Grotte Shrine France Pilgrims Crutches Pre-Linen

Lourdes, France1905Pre-linenGood

Faith, hope, and the haunting forest of abandoned crutches — this striking early 1900s real-photo-style view of the Grotto of Massabielle at Lourdes captures pilgrims kneeling and standing before the iron railing, the statue of Our Lady of Lourdes gleaming white in her rocky niche above, while dozens of crutches and walking sticks left by the miraculously healed line the cave walls and gate in an arresting display of devotion. Published by the prolific LL (Lévy et ses Fils / Levy & Fils), the card carries catalogue number 233 and is an unused example in clean, collectible condition. The image is a classic of Catholic pilgrimage iconography, deeply evocative of the Marian devotion that drew millions to the Pyrenean shrine after Bernadette's visions of 1858. The back is blank and undivided-style adjacent to the LL print format, suggesting a circa 1903–1910 dating.
