Postcard 1950s Linz an der Donau Austria Danube River RPPC Real Photo Used Wien

Linz, Austria1953RPPCExcellent

Linz cradles the great bend of the Danube like a city that has always known its own importance — and this crisp real-photo postcard from the early 1950s captures that grandeur perfectly, the river curving silver through a landscape of bridges, church spires, and forested hills that stretches to the horizon. Published by Adolf Winkler of Vienna and posted from Linz to Wien II (Czerningasse 9), the card carries an Austrian 1-Schilling "Mariazell" definitive stamp, postmarked Linz with a machine slogan cancel. The handwritten message in German blue ink is brief and warm — the kind of note sent between family or close acquaintances to say "greetings from Linz." Linz, Austria's third-largest city and capital of Upper Austria, had particular historical resonance in the postwar decade: it was rebuilding its identity after the Nazi period and the postwar Allied occupation zone, making even ordinary tourist correspondence from this period quietly significant. The photograph is razor-sharp, with excellent tonal range.
