Postcard 1918 Franz Schubert Hannerl Singspiel Molitor Liederkarte No 20

Vienna, Austria1918Pre-linenGood

A captivating theatrical souvenir from Vienna's golden age of operetta, this is Molitor's Liederkarte No. 20 — a folding song-card hybrid that opens to reveal the full printed sheet music for Könnt ich noch einmal so jung sein, a wistful Viennese Lied drawn from the Singspiel Hannerl (also known as Dreimderlhaus, Part II), with music adapted from Franz Schubert. The front bears a hand-tinted lithographic portrait of a portly, white-haired gentleman in a magnificent embroidered dressing robe with green lapels and cuffs — identified below as Tschott, Herr Ollinatsch, almost certainly a character from the production. The artwork, rendered in warm terracotta and sage tones, has the refined quality of early 20th-century Viennese theatrical ephemera. Inside, the music is headed Langsam und gefühlvoll (Slowly and feelingly), with lyrics by Dr. A. M. Willner and Heinz Reichert, arranged for the stage by Carl Lafite; copyright 1918 by W. Karczag, Leipzig, Wien, New York — placing this squarely in the final months of World War I, when Viennese audiences still sought escape in sentimental song. The reverse features a decorative "Emel Karten" back with an oval portrait of Schubert himself and an advertisement for the first series of 10 modern operetta hits.
