Antwerp Central Station Belgium La Gare Color Postcard 1913

Antwerp (Anvers), Belgium1913Pre-linenGood
Hand-coloured photographic postcard of the Gare Centrale (Central Station) of Antwerp (Anvers), Belgium, viewed from the station square. Caption in red upper left: 'Anvers. La Gare.' The grand Beaux-Arts station — completed in 1905 and designed by Louis Delacenserie — dominates the centre of the image with its massive stone facade, soaring semicircular glazed arch, ornate turrets, and central dome. The foreground shows the formal oval garden of the Franklin Rooseveltplaats (then Koningin Astridplein), with curved planted beds, ornamental lamp posts, and a horse-drawn carriage and pedestrians on the broad cobbled approach road. The surrounding Belle Époque commercial buildings lining the square are visible at left. The colour tinting gives the card a warm pastel palette — blue sky, green lawns, stone facades. Mailed August 2, 1913 from Antwerp with a bold circular ANTWERPEN / ANVERS date stamp. Belgian 10c King Albert I stamp affixed. Addressed in English to 'Mr. E. Tansley, 10 Read St., Coventry, Warwickshire, England.' Message in English: 'Arrived all right had a Champion trip over hope you are enjoying yourself how will this view do yours truly Bell.'
