Postcard 1903 Pisa Italy Battistero Duomo Leaning Tower RPPC Hotel Nettuno

Pisa, Italy1903Pre-linenGood

Mailed on April 10, 1903 from the Hotel Washington in Pisa, this rare early undivided-back Italian postcard captures a sweeping elevated view of the Campo dei Miracoli — the Baptistery's ornate multi-tiered dome dominates the left foreground, the striped marble Duomo stretches across the center, and the unmistakable tilt of the Leaning Tower punctuates the right horizon against distant Tuscan hills. A traveler (likely a man writing to his brother) dashed off a brief, breezy message in pencil: "April 10 — Dear Bro — we are here today seeing the sights with Mr. Millett's all well. Your family." The card was addressed to 3003 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri, USA — a transatlantic journey of this tiny paper souvenir still traceable 120 years later. The back bears the blue rubber stamp of the Hôtel Washington, Pise ("Tous près de la Gare" — just steps from the station), dated 10 APR 1903 and signed by proprietor A. Balestri, alongside Italian Cartolina Postale franking and two Pisa transit cancels.
