Pöstyén Anna-Bad Hotel Palace Theramia Hungary Spa Postcard c1910

Pöstyén (Piešťany), Kingdom of Hungary, Austro-Hungarian Empire1910Pre-linenGood
Black-and-white photographic postcard of the Anna fürdő és Palace Theramia szálló (Anna Bath and Palace Theramia Hotel), Pöstyén (today Piešťany, Slovakia), then part of the Kingdom of Hungary within the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The bilingual caption in red reads 'Anna fürdő és Palace Theramia szálló / Anna-Bad u. Hotel Palace Theramia' in Hungarian and German. The view, taken from across the Váh River, shows the grand spa complex in full: the domed rotunda of the Anna thermal bath at left, the multi-storey Belle Époque Palace Theramia hotel in the centre and right, formal terraced gardens with a circular fountain, ornamental paths, and promenading figures. Pöstyén was one of the most celebrated thermal spa resorts of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, known for its sulphurous mud baths and rheumatism treatments. Published by Gipsz H. kiadása (Gipsz H. edition), Budapest/Hungary — catalogue no. 23955. Divided back printed 'LEVELEZŐ-LAP' (Hungarian: postcard). Mailed from Pöstyén with a circular date stamp cancel. Addressed in German cursive to 'Wohlgeborenen Fräulein [name] / Zum Bouner / Wien XXI / Meldemannstr. Nº 15' (a young lady in Vienna's 21st district). Message written in Hungarian cursive.
