Postcard 1905 NYC Times Building Greeting New York Novelty Pull-Out S.A.C.

New York City, USA1905Pre-linenFair-Good

When the slender Times Tower pierced the Manhattan skyline above what was newly christened Times Square, it was the talk of the city — and this clever novelty postcard made sure the wonder could be shared across the miles. The front shows the Times Building (completed 1904, now One Times Square) rendered in a layered lithographic die-cut, its facade rising dramatically against a pale sky with "PROCTOR'S" signage visible on a neighboring building and the letters "S.A.C." handwritten in the lower right corner. A small brass fastener at mid-building opens to reveal a folded interior card bearing a crisp photograph captioned New York Sky Line from North River — an early panoramic view of Lower Manhattan's emerging skyscraper profile as seen from the Hudson, a steamship mid-river for scale. The greeting "Greeting from New York" arches across the top in Gothic lettering; together, front and hidden interior make this a prime example of the mechanical novelty postcards that captivated the Edwardian mailing public.
