Postcard c1900 Paris Rue des Pyramides Statue Jeanne d'Arc CLC France CPA

Paris, France1902Pre-linenGood

A child in a long coat pauses at the iron fence surrounding Emmanuel Frémiet's gleaming equestrian statue of Joan of Arc — lance raised, flag aloft — at the Rue des Pyramides in Paris, while a horse-drawn cab rolls past Haussmann-era arcaded buildings in the background. This early CPA, catalogued number 41 by publisher C.L.C., captures Place des Pyramides before motor traffic had displaced the horse-drawn world, almost certainly pre-1905 based on the undivided-back style and advertising reverse from La Pharmacie Normale of Bourbonne-les-Bains. The pharmacie reverse — "Vend Bon Marché / Médicaments garantis de première qualité" — suggests the card was distributed as a promotional giveaway through a provincial pharmacy, a common commercial practice of the Belle Époque. The card was never posted and remains unused, clean on the address side save for a single faint stamp-number "9" in orange. Frémiet's 1874 gilded bronze statue, a potent symbol of French nationalism recovering from the humiliation of 1870–71, attracted patriotic visitors and tourists alike, making it a perennial postcard subject.
