Postcard 1930s Brownsville TX US Custom House Gateway Bridge Linen Unused

Brownsville, Texas, USA1935LinenGood

A sunny 1930s linen-era scene captures the Spanish Colonial Revival U.S. Custom House at Brownsville, Texas, with a gleaming steel arch of the International Gateway Bridge visible just beyond — the literal threshold between the United States and Mexico over the Rio Grande. A period school bus in vivid amber rolls through the checkpoint past a bold "STOP U.S. CUSTOMS" sign, while a dark green Model A-era automobile idles at right, evoking the rhythms of border commerce and cross-cultural daily life during the New Deal decade. The card was never mailed, retaining its crisp linen texture and vivid C.T. American Art Colored lithography. Published by R.O. Barron Jr. of Mission, Texas, this card is a snapshot of U.S.-Mexico border infrastructure at a pivotal moment — the Gateway Bridge had opened only in 1928.
