Postcard 1900s Mexico Una Familia Indigena Indigenous Family Pre-Linen La Joyita

Mexico (specific location unidentified)1903Pre-linenGood

A young mother cradles two small children while an older man in a broad sombrero and a woman in yellow sit nearby — the whole family arranged outdoors amid simple woven textiles and humble cooking pots in this remarkably intimate hand-colored portrait of indigenous Mexican life from the early 1900s. Captioned "Una familia indígena" (An Indigenous Family), this card was produced by the Mexico City publisher "La Joyita" as part of a numbered ethnographic series aimed at foreign tourists and collectors during the Porfiriato — a period when the Díaz government simultaneously celebrated and commodified indigenous culture while dispossessing indigenous communities of their land. The card's undivided back and early Tarjeta Postal / Carte Postale format place it firmly in the pre-1905 era, and it was never mailed, preserving the vivid hand-coloring in fine condition.
