Postcard 1900s Mexico City Basilica de Guadalupe Pre-Linen Tinted La Joyita

Mexico City, Mexico1903Pre-linenGood

Horse-drawn carts and market stalls bustle in the foreground as the ornate churrigueresque façade of the old Basilica de Guadalupe rises in warm ochre tones against a pale sky — a rare tinted view capturing colonial Mexico City at the turn of the twentieth century, before the basilica's tilting foundations became a cause for international alarm. Published by "La Joyita," a well-known Mexico City stationery shop at 1a San Francisco 14, this is card No. 130 in their numbered Mexico series, making it a desirable sequence piece for collectors tracking early Mexican topographical sets. The undivided back — reading only "Tarjeta Postal / Carte Postale" with "Union Postale Universelle" on both vertical margins — firmly dates production to the pre-1907 era. The tinting is vivid and largely intact, with soft pink, gold, and green hues distinguishing the basilica's twin towers and dome from the surrounding market scene. Never mailed; the reverse is entirely blank.
