Postcard 1910 Richmond College Virginia Pre-Linen Mailed Poolesville MD

Richmond, Virginia, USA1910Pre-linenFair-Good

Across a wide, tree-dotted lawn, Richmond College's Second Empire–style main building commands the Virginia skyline — its mansard-roofed central tower and flanking dormers captured in a dusky blue-tinted lithograph that feels almost like a daguerreotype of Edwardian academic ambition. Mailed September 6, 1910, from Poolesville, Maryland, to a "Miss Marguerite" in Washington, D.C., the card carries a tender personal message from "Zina" — "Dear Sissy, I am better now am walking some today when are you coming home tell mama not to forget to send me my ring" — a snapshot of sisterly affection and convalescence from over a century ago. Richmond College, founded in 1830, later relocated and became the University of Richmond; the building depicted was on the original downtown Richmond campus, long since demolished. Published by Tom Jones of Cincinnati, canceled with a crisp Poolesville, MD postmark and a one-cent Franklin stamp.
