Postcard 1905 Peterhouse Hall Cambridge University RPPC Walter Scott Bradford

Cambridge, England, UK1904RPPCExcellent

Soaring hammer-beam-style vaulted timbers frame a medieval feast hall frozen in scholarly silence — Peterhouse College's ancient dining hall at Cambridge University, its long refectory tables empty, portraits of distinguished Masters gazing from the linenfold-paneled walls, and a Latin inscription arching above in gilded script: a space where learning and tradition have mingled since the college's founding in 1284, making it Cambridge's oldest. This real-photo postcard — a silver gelatin print of exceptional clarity and tonal depth — was published by Walter Scott of Bradford, one of the foremost British architectural photography publishers of the Edwardian era, carrying the early undivided-correspondence/address-only back format indicating production c.1902–1906. The card is unposted and unaddressed, a pristine archival-quality image that doubles as a fine art photograph of one of England's most storied interiors. The hall's carved wooden screen, stained glass lancet window, and painted wallpaper ceiling panels are all crisply rendered.
