Gilded baroque splendour fills every surface of Porto's Igreja de São Francisco — its nave walls, columns, and vaulted ceiling smothered in carved and gilded woodwork estimated to contain over 200 kg of gold leaf, making it one of the most opulent interiors in all of Portugal. Photographer Geléza of Porto captured this view looking straight down the nave toward the high altar, the ribbed Gothic vaulting overhead creating a rhythmic tunnel of ornamentation. Printed as a crisp gelatin silver real-photo card with a "Bilhete Postal Portugal / Printed in Great Britain" reverse, the card was never sent — its pristine blank back preserving it in near-mint condition for collectors of Iberian religious architecture.
