Antique & Vintage Postcards

Jester-costumed doughnut men flank an illuminated medieval scroll proclaiming "As you ramble on thru Life, Brother, Whatever be your Goal, Keep your Eye upon the Doughnut and not upon the Hole!" — the official motto of the Donut Casino at the 1939 New York World's Fair, one of the quirkier corporate pavilions in the Health Building, 300 feet from the Theme Center on Constitution Mall. Below the whimsical heraldry, the linen-print image shows the Tested Quality Donuts Science and Health Building in all its Moderne glory, with signage for Maxwell House Coffee and Nabs also visible. The reverse carries a pre-printed promotional message extolling the "wonderfully different and delicious" automatically made donuts and urging visitors to ask their dealer for Tested Quality, Mayflower, or Downyflake Donuts — a rare survival of World's Fair food-pavilion ephemera with full advertising text intact. Catalog no. 9A-H571, series W.F. 2.
