Antique & Vintage Postcards

An evocative black-and-white real-photo view descends into the remarkable underground world of Wieliczka Salt Mine near Kraków, Poland — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — capturing the ethereal "Łętów" chamber with its chandelier-hung rock-salt formations, an ornate Baroque altar piece glowing at the far end, and debris scattered across the carved salt floor. Dated 2–39 (February 1939), this card was published just months before the German invasion of Poland, lending it a haunting historical poignancy. The publisher, Wł. Garguł of Wieliczka, produced a series of numbered mine-interior cards; this is card no. 26 in that series. Never mailed — a pristine unused example with text in Polish, German, French, and English on the reverse.
