Real photo postcard of Anne Hathaway's Cottage at Shottery, near Stratford-on-Avon — the 15th-century half-timbered farmhouse with its sweeping thatched roof and cottage garden in full summer bloom, exactly as Shakespeare's future wife would have known it. The cottage, where Anne Hathaway lived before her 1582 marriage to William Shakespeare, has been a place of literary pilgrimage since the 18th century and is now among the most visited historic houses in England. Marion mailed this from Paddington Station in July 1936 to a friend Pearl in Kansas City, Missouri, explaining: "Because you are interested in literary matters, I thought you might like a card from Stratford. It is all very beautiful."
