Antique & Vintage Postcards

Real photo postcard of Makartplatz in Salzburg — the Hotel Bristol's ornate Ringstrasse facade on the left, and across the square the concave Baroque form of the Dreifaltigkeitskirche (Church of the Holy Trinity), designed by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and built 1694–1702, its central dome and twin towers rising above the roofline. The Dreifaltigkeitskirche was Fischer von Erlach's first major commission in Salzburg and is considered the architectural model for his subsequent work throughout the Habsburg lands; its dome fresco by Johann Michael Rottmayr depicting the Coronation of the Virgin remains one of the finest Baroque paintings in Austria. A woman named Lini mailed this to a friend Amy in Vienna in September 1954, writing in German that they would be coming in early October and she would bring everything along.
