Real photo postcard (RPPC) of the Königssee with the pilgrimage church of St. Bartholomew (Bartolomä) in the Berchtesgaden Alps, Bavaria, Germany. The small white baroque church with its distinctive onion-domed towers and red roof stands alone on a narrow peninsula at the base of the towering Watzmann east face, whose sheer 1,800-metre cliff plunges directly into the dark glacial waters of the lake. A lone boatman on a flat-bottomed boat is visible in the foreground on the mirror-still surface. A powerfully composed photograph capturing one of the most dramatic natural and architectural juxtapositions in the Alps.
