Antique & Vintage Postcards

A solitary rower drifts on the glassy surface of Lake Keuka in the Finger Lakes — the wooded shoreline and a dock visible at right, mountains faint in the morning haze, a lane running along the water's edge. Lake Keuka, the only Y-shaped lake in the northeastern United States, was known for its grape-growing slopes and its quiet resort character; Keuka College, founded in 1890 as one of the earliest four-year colleges in America to grant degrees to women, sat on a rise above the eastern branch of the lake at Branchport. The Rotograph Co. of New York City published this card, printed in Germany, under catalogue no. 54964. Never mailed.
