A sweeping bird's-eye view of Syracuse University on its hilltop above the city — the red-stone Romanesque towers of Crouse College dominating the right skyline, the academic buildings spreading across the ridge, the red-tile rooftops of the residential neighborhood below. Syracuse University was founded in 1870 on a hill east of the city, and by 1908 had grown into one of the major universities of the Northeast, with an increasingly prominent campus anchored by Crouse College, its landmark music and fine arts building completed in 1889. George mailed this to a cousin in McConnelsburg, Pennsylvania — a note scrawled across the image side reading "From Cousin George, 5/16/08."
