Picking Apples Hood River Oregon Orchard Workers Postcard 1912
Hood River, Oregon1912Pre-linenGood
Workers on ladders fill crates beneath trees so heavily laden with fruit the branches nearly bow to the ground in this golden-toned postcard of the Hood River Valley apple harvest, Oregon's premier fruit-growing region promoted heavily by the railroad that ran through it. A Swedish-language message home to a Minnesota farm suggests the sender was part of the era's Scandinavian immigrant community.
