Postcard 1907 Lancaster Street School Leominster MA Litho-Chrome Germany Used

Leominster, Massachusetts, USA1907Pre-linenGood

Emma thought the picture was "very good" — and she was right. This vivid Litho-Chrome lithograph of the Lancaster Street School in Leominster, Massachusetts captures the grand Romanesque Revival brick schoolhouse in full flush of its early years, trolley tracks still raw in the unpaved foreground, the building's ornate cupola and arched Palladian window asserting civic ambition on the Massachusetts landscape. Mailed from Leominster in 1907 to Mary in South Peterboro, New Hampshire, the card was published by the Leominster 5 and 10 Cent Store and printed in Leipzig, Berlin, and Dresden by the renowned Litho-Chrome process — Germany's finest chromolithographic output at the height of the Golden Age of postcards. The handwritten note along the bottom edge reads simply: "I think the picture very good. Emma." A 1-cent Ben Franklin stamp (Scott #300) franks the card, tied by a crisp Leominster, Mass. circular date stamp reading 1907.
