Postcard 1900s City Hall Birmingham Alabama Undivided Back Souvenir Card

Birmingham, Alabama, USA1904Pre-linenFair-Good

A teal-tinted souvenir-era view of Birmingham's grand Victorian City Hall commands the intersection with its clock-tower spire piercing a stormy sky — horse-drawn traffic and a lone pedestrian in a wide-brimmed hat animate the street below, freezing a moment from Alabama's rapidly industrializing "Magic City" circa 1903–1905. The sender, who signs off as "Sadley" on the image itself, wrote a breezy, affectionate note on the undivided front urging the recipient — a schoolgirl named Ala in Cameron, Texas — to "be a good girl in school" and promising to "tell you next time we met." The reverse continues the conversation, asking why Ala skipped church on Sunday and noting cheerfully that the writer's own school term has ended, leaving Ala to sit "lonesome by yourself." Published by Souvenir Post Card Co. with card number 1182, this undivided-back card predates the 1907 divided-back standard and represents an early chapter in American postcard collecting.
