Wellesley Massachusetts RR Station Postcard 1906 Rotograph

Wellesley, Massachusetts1906Pre-linenGood

Postcard view of the railroad station at Wellesley, Massachusetts — a broad-roofed, shingle-style depot with dormer windows, framed by carriages, a trolley, and travelers gathered on the platform, captured at the height of the suburban commuter-rail era. Wellesley sat along the Boston & Albany Railroad's western line, whose run of picturesque suburban stations through towns like Wellesley, Wellesley Hills, and Chestnut Hill was famously shaped in the 1880s by architect H.H. Richardson, setting the tone for New England depot design for decades. The card was mailed from Wellesley in 1906 with a hurried note on the front explaining that a friend named Beth had sent an earlier batch of these cards to the wrong address — a small mailing mix-up a sender named Ed was eager to set right.
