Postcard 1907 Union Station Springfield MA Detroit Photographic UDB Used

Springfield, Massachusetts, USA1907Pre-linenGood

A horse-drawn carriage idles at the curb outside Springfield's grand Union Station, its Romanesque Revival towers of rusticated granite and red brick rising against a pale-blue sky — a Detroit Photographic Company masterpiece hand-colored with the vivid optimism of the Edwardian era. Card no. 8825 captures the station at its bustling prime, before the automobile age transformed American travel. On April 20, 1907, a traveler named G. dashed off a quick note on the picture side — "I am on my way to Springfield" — then mailed it from the station itself, the Springfield, MA postmark stamped the same day at 4:00 PM. The card was addressed to Miss Berta at #1 Harbury Terrace, Roxbury, Massachusetts, a fleeting glimpse of an Edwardian social connection preserved in paper and ink for over a century.
