RPPC Postcard 1940s Little Chapel of Roses Glen Abbey Park Chula Vista CA

Chula Vista, California, USA1945RPPCFair-Good

Ivy clings to the Gothic stone walls of the Little Chapel of Roses at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Chula Vista, California — a real-photo postcard capturing one of Southern California's most picturesque cemetery chapels at the height of its mid-century splendor. Photographed by the Pierce–De Whit studio, the image reveals a steeply pointed spire, arched lancet windows, and manicured topiary shrubs framing a well-kept lawn, all rendered in the rich silver-gelatin tones characteristic of RPPC production. Glen Abbey, opened in the 1920s in the South Bay area just south of San Diego, was marketed as a "garden of memory" and drew families from across the region; the chapel became a landmark for weddings and memorial services alike. The reverse shows the standard divided-back RPPC format with a "Place Stamp Here" box, and bears a penciled dealer price of $2.75 — a modest sum for what is now a collectible piece of San Diego County ephemera.
