Amberg Bavaria Rathaus Gothic Town Hall Germany Postcard 1921

Amberg, Bavaria, Germany1921Pre-linenGood

Sepia photo postcard of the Rathaus in Amberg, Bavaria — one of the finest Gothic civic buildings in southern Germany, its stepped gable and ornate tracery rising above the market square, arched arcades at ground level where figures move in the morning light. Built between 1356 and 1414, the Amberg Rathaus was the seat of government for the Upper Palatinate through centuries of Bavarian and Bohemian history. This particular card carries an unusual distinction: a red official stamp across the top reading "3. Juni 1921 / No 27204" — an administrative inspection or notarial certification mark from the turbulent post-WWI period when Bavaria was navigating the upheaval of the early Weimar Republic. A note on the image references the Rathaus renovation underway at the time.
