Antique & Vintage Postcards

A handsome sepia-toned real-photo-style postcard depicting the celebrated Beethoven-Denkmal (Beethoven Monument) on the Münsterplatz in Bonn am Rhein, Germany. The bronze statue of Ludwig van Beethoven — sculpted by Ernst Julius Hähnel and unveiled in 1845 — stands atop its carved stone pedestal, draped in a flowing cape with a rolled score tucked under one arm, gazing upward in characteristic Romantic-era grandeur. The pedestal inscription reads LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN / gebohren Bonn MDCCLXX (born Bonn 1770). A classical European building and bare-limbed trees complete the background. Published by Hermann A. Peters, Kunstverlag, Bonn (Nr. 33), this card was never mailed and retains crisp image detail with only minor age toning consistent with its early-twentieth-century production.
