Antique & Vintage Postcards

Multi-view lithograph advertising card for J.C. Kistenmacher's Garten in Berlin NW — two views showing the garden entrance gate on Richard Wagner-Strasse with its ornate iron signage, and the Wasserfront terrace looking out over the water at the edge of the Tiergarten. Kistenmacher's Garten occupied the famous "Hinter den Zelten" location beside the Tiergarten, one of Berlin's most beloved open-air restaurant and beer garden sites from the mid-19th century onward, where Berliners came on warm evenings to drink, eat, and watch the river traffic. Published by Kunstverlag Reinert of Berlin, this card was sent in April 1904 from Berlin to Frau Max Bartels — wife of a missions goods merchant — in Anderson, Indiana, crossing the Atlantic with dual 5pf Germania stamps for international postage, a small piece of Berlin leisure culture landing in small-town Indiana.
