1910s Thanksgiving Pumpkin Fantasy Postcard Washington DC Local Mail Kolhos

Washington, D.C., USA1912Pre-linenGood

A charming Edwardian-era Thanksgiving fantasy postcard from the Thanksgiving Series No. 46½, depicting a whimsical scene in which an elegantly dressed woman in a red gown rings a doorbell at a giant golden pumpkin — complete with arched doorway and lit interior windows — while a well-dressed 18th-century-costumed family (gentleman in green coat, woman in pink, and a small child) approaches as guests. Decorative ribbon swags frame the top of the composition. The text below reads "Thanksgiving — Enjoyment & Contentment" in flowing Art Nouveau script. The card was mailed locally within Washington, D.C., postmarked November 28 at 5:30 PM from the Washington, D.C. post office — almost certainly Thanksgiving Day itself — addressed to Miss Chris Kolhos, 34-1428 R St NW, Washington, D.C., LOCAL. Two U.S. 1-cent George Washington green stamps were used (Scott #331 or #405 era), consistent with the 1-cent postcard rate of the period, suggesting a circa 1910–1914 date.
