Antique & Vintage Postcards

Lobster lovers and fans of mid-century Maritime Canada dining will delight in this multi-view chrome postcard for the Idle Oars Restaurant in North Rustico, Prince Edward Island — a beloved seafood destination just four miles from Cavendish on Highway 6, where the front lawn decorated with crossed oars and stacked lobster traps announced exactly what was on the menu inside. The card's three panels reveal a lively lounge with drum kit at the ready, a warmly lit dining room set with yellow chairs and purple-clothed tables, and — most appetizingly — two enormous scarlet whole lobsters presented on branded "Idle Oars" plates, the very image of a perfect PEI seafood feast. A fixture of the Island's tourism scene in the 1960s–70s, the restaurant's "Hook Line & Sinker Lounge" and its 300-seat dining room made it one of the region's signature dining destinations.
