Postcard Linen Cherry Blossom Time Washington DC Bureau Engraving 1940s

Washington, D.C., USA1945LinenExcellent

Pink clouds of Yoshino cherry blossoms frame a glassy Tidal Basin view in this luminous linen-era postcard, with the neoclassical Bureau of Engraving and Printing glowing gold across the water — a scene that drew hundreds of thousands of visitors each spring and cemented Washington's most iconic seasonal ritual. The card was produced for Capitol Souvenir Company (CAPSCO), one of the capital's dominant souvenir distributors of the 1940s, and photographed by H. H. Rideout, whose linen views of D.C. landmarks are perennial collector favorites. The vivid chromolithographic palette — saturated pinks, cobalt water, buttery limestone — is characteristic of Curt Teich-era linen printing at its finest. The reverse is unused and pristine, with a penciled dealer price of "EL / 1-" visible in the stamp box corner.
