Antique & Vintage Postcards

"Topsy" and "Pinky," a pair of Major Mitchell's Cockatoos (Leadbeater Cockatoos) from Australia, preen and nuzzle on a weathered branch in this striking full-bleed chrome photograph from Miami's legendary Parrot Jungle attraction — their salmon-pink plumage and explosive red-and-white crests rendered in vivid natural color by Florida Natural Color, Inc. Major Mitchell's Cockatoos are among the most visually dramatic of the Australian parrots, and Parrot Jungle (opened 1936 on S.W. 57th Avenue, later relocated to Watson Island as "Jungle Island" in 2003) was one of Florida's premier roadside attractions throughout the mid-20th century, drawing millions of visitors to its free-flying bird shows and lush tropical gardens. Published by Florida Natural Color, Inc. and printed by Koppel Color Cards of Hawthorne, N.J., this vertical-format card (FG 114 / 65848) is a fine example of the high-quality wildlife photography that made Parrot Jungle's postcard series collector favorites.
