Antique & Vintage Postcards

Dappled afternoon light plays through towering hardwoods along the lakeshore promenade at Bemus Point, Chautauqua Lake, New York — a small resort village that in the 1930s drew vacationers from across the Northeast to its docks, dance halls, and quiet roads. A white lattice gazebo draped with an American flag anchors the right side of this richly colored linen card, while boat slips glimpsed through the trees recall lazy summer afternoons on one of western New York's most beloved lakes. Mailed in July 1936, the sender — signing simply as "Doll" — wrote warmly to Jane in Washington: "Having a very pleasant time, expect to go home tomorrow. Am sending you a book to help you in your lonely hours."
