Antique & Vintage Postcards

A gleaming row of early-1950s American automobiles — two-tone Fords, a fat-fendered Buick, a bright red coupe — lines the street in front of the Colgate Inn in Hamilton, New York, a handsome stone-and-shingle country inn "of distinction" on the Chenango Trail, captured here in rich Ektachrome color just as the chrome age of American motoring reached its peak. Margaret, visiting her friend Helen and family, dashed off a cheerful note to her neighbor back on Perry Street in Attica, Indiana: "Have you missed me going up and down Perry St.? I will soon be coming home. I have had a very nice visit here with Helen & family." The Colgate Inn, affiliated with neighboring Colgate University, remains in operation today, making this a wonderful intersection of mid-century Americana, automotive history, and small-town friendship.
