Postcard Buenos Aires El Rosedal Rose Garden Argentina c1920s Pre-Linen

Buenos Aires, Argentina1925Pre-linenGood

A tranquil corner of Buenos Aires' beloved El Rosedal — the rose garden of Palermo — captured in a crisp black-and-white view that evokes the golden age of Argentine municipal horticulture. A climbing rose smothers a pergola column in full bloom at right, framing a wide vista of clipped topiary spheres, formal flower beds, and elegant cast-iron lamp standards receding into the distance; a slatted wooden park bench anchors the foreground. El Rosedal was laid out from 1914 onward by landscape architect Carlos Thays Jr. and quickly became one of South America's premier public gardens, drawing Sunday promenaders and romantics alike. Published by the well-regarded Buenos Aires house of Bourquin & Kohlmann, this is card No. 16 in their city series — an attractive and collectible example of early Argentine topographic postal art.
