Antique & Vintage Postcards

Grand and imposing in orange brick and stone, the Michigan National Guard Armory in Grand Rapids dominates its corner lot beneath a snapping American flag — this linen-era postcard captures the building's bold Romanesque Revival arched windows and decorated cornice in warm, saturated color typical of 1930s commercial printing. The Grand Rapids Armory on Fulton Street was completed in 1909 and served as a centerpiece of military and civic life for decades, hosting both Guard musters and public events; the building was later demolished, making this card a valuable visual document of lost civic architecture. On the back, mailed November 30, 1930 from Grand Rapids to Port Huron with a brief holiday greeting signed simply with initials, the card bears a festive postal slogan: "Mail Early for Christmas."
