Postcard Aberystwyth Beach Wales Undivided Back c1902 F.F.& Co Printed Germany

Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Wales, UK1901Pre-linenFair-Good

A sun-drenched Victorian bank holiday unfolds on the broad sands of Aberystwyth, Wales, in this wonderfully evocative early postcard: sailboats heel lazily in Cardigan Bay, upturned dinghies dot the foreshore, and dozens of holidaymakers in full Edwardian dress — women in long dark skirts, men in top hats, children playing at the water's edge — crowd a beach backed by the grand Victorian seafront hotels and terraces that made Aberystwyth the "Biarritz of Wales." Constitution Hill rises dramatically to the left, its funicular railway (opened 1896) just visible as a scar on the hillside. The card was printed in Germany for publisher F. F. & Co., on an undivided-back format that signals a date of circa 1900–1902, making it one of the earliest postcard types from the Golden Age of British seaside tourism.
